WARRINGTON Borough Council’s visual impairment service is so good at what it does that staff were asked to speak at a prestigious conference.
Team members were asked to take part in The British and Irish Orthoptic Society conference and speak about the work they do, to share good working practices and to run workshops.
The service is dedicated to working with children with special needs and visual impairment and is taking the lead in promoting good practice in this field.
Working closely with the orthoptic/eye department at Warrington Hospital, the service supports babies and young children from the point of diagnosis right up until when they leave school.
The team has also set up a parent/carer-toddler group for visually impaired pre-school children, called See Urchins, that meets once a month during term time.
Cllr Colin Froggatt, (pictured) the borough council’s executive member for children and young people’s services, said: “For the visual impairment service to be represented at this prestigious conference reflects the high reputation and calibre of the team and the superb services they provide. They do excellent work and are constantly striving to improve what they do to help those affected.”
