Survey reveals big energy savings

BIG savings on household energy bills are being identified during a survey of properties at Lymm.
The survey is being carried out by “green” group Low Carbon Lymm, funded by the Government’s Local Energy Assessment Fund (LEAF).
Energy assessor Nick Ormesher said: “In typical 1960s semi-detached bungalows, for example, we have identified savings of between £200 and £400 per year through measures such as better insulation, more efficient boilers and low energy lighting.
“We are also finding examples of properties which have already achieved high standards of energy efficiency and can be used as examples to others”.
LEAF project manager Richard Pearce said: “You can request your free energy survey by calling me on 01925 754480 or by emailing us at [email protected] and you will also receive a free Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) worth up to £90 which is valid for 10 years and is required if you sell or let your home.
“We have to complete the surveys by the end of March so please get in touch as soon as possible.”
Also under the LEAF project, a “walk round survey” has been undertaken by Low Carbon Lymm volunteers to identify the different house types, ages and locations of more than 5,000 properties in Lymm and to provide the basis for an energy savings map of the village. This will be on view at a Low Carbon Lymm event on Saturday March 24 at the Lymm Youth and Community Centre between 1.30pm and 4pm.
The free event will include information and advice on how to achieve energy savings and there will be a free prize draw for a wide range of energy efficient appliances such as an LED TV and eco-kettle. There will also be a range of activities for children including a competition to design an energy efficiency house and badge making.
Anyone interested in finding out more about the group, or with questions on energy saving, local food, recycling or other low carbon topics can email [email protected] or check out the website www.lowcarbonlymm.org.uk
