Green bin collection resumes

GREEN bin collections start again in Warrington from today, following the winter shut down.
Residents getting their gardens ready for spring are being urged to make use of the garden waste scheme and can expect their first collection between today and March 16.
There will be a fortnightly collection and a collection day sticker should already be on residents’ bins indicating when the first pick-up will be.
If anyone finds the sticker is missing and needs to know the first collection date they should call Contact Warrington on 01925 443322.
Cllr David Keane, the borough council’s executive member for environment and public protection said: “Our green bin scheme has been hugely successful with over 65,000 tonnes of garden waste collected across Warrington over the past six years. Recycling garden waste is good for the environment and convenient. I’d urge everyone to make use of their green bin as they get their garden ready for spring.”
The service allows residents to collect grass cuttings, garden cuttings, twigs, weeds, plants and leaves that is then converted into compost to be used as a soil improver on agricultural land.
Warrington residents are still able to buy subsidised home composters and wormeries which can be used to compost garden waste and food waste at home.
