MORE than 100 entries have been received for a competition to decide a new name for a former library which has been re-opened by volunteers.
The former Grappenhall Library – a victim of Warrington Borough Council cutbacks – is now again opening four days a week for book borrowing – Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Coffee mornings for senior citizens are held on Thursday mornings between 10am and 12 noon.
Tony Smith, a member of the Friends of Grappenhall Library, said: “In only three weeks we have 315 borrowing members and have issued almost 800 books out of the stock of over 4,200 that were all donated.
“The library has become a meeting place again for a great mixture of people of all ages in the community.”
Tony and fellow “Friend” Kay Webb appeared on a hospital radio broadcast, explaining how the community project to re-open the library was progressing.
A quiz night is planned for March 16 to raise funds.
Residents can become members of the new “library” for free, but can also join as a “Friend” to help with the book lending work and expand the project into new areas.
