A WOMAN claimed more than £2,700 housing benefit due to a lodger, who had moved out of her property, magistrates heard at Warrington.
Angela Edwards, aged 45 of Dale Lane, Appleton, Warrington pleaded guilty to failing to inform the borough council a lodger in her property had moved out. Instead she continued to receive payments of housing benefit for that lodger in her role as a landlord.
The court was told the woman received benefit amounting to £2,795.96 as a result of the deception.
She was ordered to repay the money, sentenced to a 12 month community order to undertake 80 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £50 costs.
