A WOMAN who claimed more than £5,000 benefit while she and her partner were both working was sentenced to a 12 month community order by magistrates at Warrington.
Jane Kraska aged 34, of School Drive in Lymm admitted falsely claiming a total of £5,016 housing benefit and council tax benefit between April and December 2010.
The court was told the woman failed to declare that she and her partner had started working and as a result they were overpaid housing benefit by £3,932 and council tax benefit by £1,084.
Kraska was also ordered to do 140 hours of unpaid work and must repay the overpayment and £200 costs.
Adrian Webster, the council’s benefits manager, said after the hearing: “Deliberately withholding information that affects your claim is stealing. That’s why we are targeting benefit thieves.”
