WARRINGTON Wizards entertain East Leeds in the Carnegie Challenge Cup Preliminary Round this coming Saturday afternoon. Kick off is 1.30pm at Wilderspool Stadium.
The Wizards, who have reached the third round of the competition for the last two seasons, will be looking to move closer to making it three years on the bounce when they face an East Leeds side who ply their trade in the National Conference League Division Two.
Head Coach Nick Owen says, “We have been back in training since the beginning of November and the lads have really put in a lot of work in that time. There are several new faces in the squad and competition for places is really intense. The run out we had against Rochdale Hornets Under 23s was very useful and allowed us to work on several combinations. We must now carry on the good work from that game against East Leeds if we are to progress through to the first round.”
Assistant coach Paul Alcock added, “We are really looking forward to the game. The commitment that the lads have put into the training sessions over the past three months has really impressed us and it will hopefully put us in good stead for the season ahead. We purposely started back a lot earlier than usual in an attempt to ensure that we were as properly prepared as we could be. The team spirit is excellent and we cannot wait to get back out on the field once again.”
Fellow Assistant Coach Mike Grady also pointed out the togetherness that seems to be around the club right now. He said, “The new players that have come down have settled in straight away and have been made very welcome by the other lads. There is a nice blend of youth and experience which will be good for us. Things look really positive once again which is great to see. We are really looking forward to having a successful season.”
Admission is £3 for Adults and £1 for Concessions.
