A benefit cheat who falsely claimed more £1,800 in benefits while working has been fined £150 and ordered to repay the money by Warrington magistrates.
Michael Cox aged 47, of Fir Grove, Warrington, pleaded guilty to deliberately failing to inform Warrington Borough Council when he started full-time employment and when his partner started work.
This resulted in Cox being overpaid housing and council tax benefit amounting to £1,888.00.
He was fined £150 with £50 costs and to repay the overpayment.
Adrian Webster, the Council’s Benefits Manager, said: “Readers will know that expenditure on benefits is under more scrutiny than ever before. That’s why it’s important we reduce the theft of state benefits.”
