New dance craze sweeping town

THE latest dance craze is sweeping town thanks to a new dance academy based in the town centre launched by former community police officer Lauren Kenealy.
Lauren, aged 24, has launched the LaKiTa Dance Academy in Museum Street, offering new classes based on acrobatic skills used for working with poles, aerial hoops and silks.
With a BA Hons Dance Drama Physical Theatre, Lauren and her team are helping dance enthusiasts get into shape with the specialist dance skills.
“When I started teaching two years ago there was a lot of stigma surrouding this kind of dancing due to lap dancing and pole dancing, but thanks to popular TV shows like “Got to Dance” it has become much more fitness related.
“The best work out you can give yourself is by lifting your own bodyweight.
“There is even a campaign for it to become an Olmpic Sport!”
Lauren came up with the name LaKiTa from her own name and that of her fellow instructors Kirsty and Tanya.
“Our aim is to become the best aerial dance and arts fitness studio in the north west,” added Lauren.
