Fury over show people's home plan

MORE than 100 people have lodged strong objections to a controversial planning application for permission to change the use of green belt land on the outskirts of Warrington to form a home for travelling show people.
The proposal involves land to the north of Hall Lane, Stretton – a site described by one objector as a “gateway to Warrington.”
Objections have also been received by Warrington South MP David Mowat, Stretton Parish Council, Stretton Residents’ Group and borough councillor Paul Kennedy
Two families of show people would occupy the site – married sisters Gail Camm and Deborah Seldon, with their husbands and three children.
Both families claim to have local connections in that they have attended fairs and galas in the Warrington area for more than 40 years.
The site would have two chalets, three caravan annexes, one children’s ride, an arcade trailer, two lorries, two vans and three cars stationed or stored on it.
But only the arcade trailer and one lorry would be parked in the open, the other items being parked inside two existing permanent buildings.
Objectors claim the applicants are not genuine travelling show people, that had failed to consult with planners in line with planning regulations and that the development will have a harmful impact on the Green Belt and a nearby Listed building.
They also cite noise, traffic impact, pollution and impact on wildlife as reasons for refusal.
The borough development management committee will consider the proposals on Thursday, January 26.
