Youth Cafe stages art project

YOUNG people in Warrington have the opportunity to join in an art project and learn more about the town’s history.
The Youth Café in Time Square is launching a public art project, The Bright Unknown, from Thursday, February 16 after receiving a £1,000 grant.
To introduce the project on Thursday, February 9, there will be an artist’s talk for young people, followed by a tour and performance of short monologues as part of a guided walk linking Bridge Street and the Cultural Quarter.
Young people involved in the initiative will also be able to gain an AQA Award “Producing Art Work for Public Exhibition.”
Cllr Terry O’Neill, leader of Warrington Borough Council, said: “The Bright Unknown project will see young people in Warrington explore the history of the town, meet local artists and create their own art work as part of a valuable AQA Award.
“This is the first of many opportunities we’ll be offering young people to gain new skills, knowledge and experience through the town’s youth café.”
Anyone interested in joining the project should contact the Youth Café or the public art officer Louisa Shand on 01925 442838.
The name of the project is taken from the poem, The Invitation, by Anna Barbauld, published in 1772.
Her father taught Classics at Warrington Academy in 1758. Anna Barbauld’s works relate to the experience of youth and her married surname gives Barbauld Street in Warrington its name.

  1. Seems somewhat ironic that the council are encouraging the young folk to learn about the towns history when the councillors and officers are quickest off the mark to pull down and concrete over any trace of our towns heritage…..
