POLICE today released CCTV pictures of a man they wish to trace in connection with a serious sex attack on a woman in Warrington town centre.
The 23-year-old woman was assaulted on a night out in the town centre in the early hours of Sunday, December 11.
She was in the Bridge Street and Bank Street area at around 3am.
Detective Inspector Debbie Dodd, who is heading up the investigation, said: “As part of our investigation we have analysed CCTV images from around the town centre that evening and identified an individual who we are keen to trace.
“I urge anyone who recognises the man captured in these images to come forward and contact my team.
“The incident took place in the town centre on a busy night in the run-up to Christmas when plenty of people were out and about.
“I would ask that anyone with any information they feel may be relevant to this enquiry make contact with us as a priority.”
DI Dodd added: “Thankfully incidents of this nature are uncommon, although I would reiterate to all members of the community, particularly lone women, to take on board basic safety advice and protect yourself from becoming a victim of this type of crime.
“Maintain an awareness of your surroundings when walking alone at night, avoid poorly lit or quiet areas and always make sure that someone knows where you are going and when you are due back.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101. Information can also be left anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
