Council targets dirty dogs

PEOPLE who don’t clean up after their dogs are being targeted by Warrington Borough Council – helped by local group Orford Dog Walkers.
Posters have been put up in the Orford area of the town, reminding dog owners that they need to bag and bin dog mess – or risk prosecution and a fine.
The posters also encourage anyone who sees a dog walker who doesn’t clean up to report them.
Council enforcement officers need to know when the owner walks their dog, where the fouling has occurred, a description of the dog and owner and the registration of any vehicle involved.
Enforcement officers will then use the information on their patrols. The more information they have the more likely it is the offenders will be caught.
To report someone who isn’t cleaning up after their dog, residents can call 01925 443322 confidentially or email [email protected]
Cllr Kate Hannon, (pictured) the council’s executive member for leisure, community and culture, said: “It is good news that Orford Dog Walkers have teamed up with the council to tackle dog fouling in the area and I’d like to thank them for their hard work. I’d encourage anyone who sees someone failing to clean up after their dog to call 01925 443322 or email in confidence.
“I hope dog owners pay heed to the important message we are trying to get across here – your pet is your responsibility, so clean up after them and keep your neighbourhood tidy.”
