Police warn motorists to be safe

AS many Warrington motorists take to the roads this Christmas weekend, Cheshire Police are urging all road users to be aware of how they can reach their destination safely and reduce the chances of being involved in a collision.
Cheshire Police Inspector Liz Cunningham says all motorists should take responsibility for their driving particularly over the Christmas period when roads are busier and drivers may be impatient to meet commitments. She said “We want all road users to get to their destination safely this Christmas and that means maintaining an awareness of basic road safety principles that will help keep drivers, their passengers and other road users safe.”
A significant percentage of collisions are the result of driver error, such as excessive speed, driving too close to the car in front, inattention or common lapses of judgment, and not driving to the weather conditions. We are also keen to drive home the message that fatigue can be a major safety concern, particularly at night.
Inspector Cunningham continued “By adopting simple road safety techniques, such as planning your journey in advance and allowing plenty of time, staying two seconds behind the car in front, driving slower in bad weather and ensuring your vehicle is mechanically sound, we can help prevent collisions and ensure all road users have a safe and happy Christmas”
