Housing scheme goes into extra time

UNITED Utilities have been given more time to find a developer to carry out a major housing scheme at Warrington.
Borough planners have approved an application by the company to extend an outline planning consent for 178 homes at Dawson House, Liverpool Road, Great Sankey.
In 2007, the utilities giant was granted outline permission for the homes – which include 51 low cost dwellings for rent – on condition that details approval be obtained within three years.
But because of the economic downturn, they have been unable to find a prospective developer.
Councillors have agreed to extend the time limit for a further two years after hearing that officers were satisfied the reasons the earlier consent has not been implemented were “valid and genuine.”
Officers say there has been no material change in circumstances since the original consent was granted.
