Shafilea parents deny murder charge

THE parents of tragic Warrington teenager Shafilea Ahmed appeared in court today charged with her murder.
Iftikhar Ahmed, 52 and Farzana Ahmed, 49, of Liverpool Road, Warrington, both pleaded not guilty when they appeared before Manchester Crown Court.
Their trial will start at Chester Crown Court on May 8.
Unusually, in a case of murder, the couple were granted bail.
Shafilea (pictured) was 17 when she disappeared from the family home in September 2003.
Five months later her remains were found on the banks of the River Kent in Cumbria. An inquest heard later that she had probably been strangled or suffocated and a verdict of unlawful killing was recorded.
