FIRE chiefs have issued a warning about the dangers of using candles as part of Christmas decorations after a house fire in Warrington.
The blaze was at a house in Flers Avenue, off Wilderspool Causeway, Warrington last night.
The occupier went to visit a neighbour leaving a candle burning in a bedroom. She returned to collect something from the house and found the bedroom ablaze.
A neighbour tackled the outbreak with an extinguishers before firefighters reached the scene and extinguished the blaze using a hosereel.
The bedroom and much of the upper floor of the house was badly smoke-damaged.
The occupier was taken to hospital for a check-up, suffering the effects of smoke inhalation.
A firefighter involved in the operation said: “We would strongly advise people to take great care if using candles and to never leave them burning in an unoccupied house.”
