WARRINGTON Disability Partnership founder Dave Thompson has been awarded a Master of Business Administration by Chester University for the promotion of disability awareness at a ceremony in Chester Cathedral.
Dave attended the ceremony with members of his family.
His sister Jayne said: “It was an honour to be with Dave for the presentation and to be able to share this humbling experience with him.
“When Dave receives praise or recognition he always says he has a good team behind him.
“I would like to add that the team have an extremely inspirational leader in Dave and we are all proud to work with him.”
In his acceptance speech, Dave paid tribute to his family and colleagues at WDP, both past and present.
He said he was accepting the reward on behalf of all disabled people who had a dream to improve their lives.
Dave Thompson was born and raised in Warrington. A keen sportsman, he took part in many sporting events until he was injured in a game of American football in 1989, and sustained a life changing spinal cord injury.
He is founder and chairman of Warrington Disability Information Service and the chairman of the Warrington Committee for Disabled People. He was the founder and a trustee of Shopmobility and the founder and Vice-Chair of Warrington Disability Sports Forum before all four organisations joined to form Warrington Disability Partnership. Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP) celebrated its 20th anniversary last summer.
Dave is the founder and current event Co-ordinator of the North West Disability Awareness Day (DAD) – Europe’s largest and longest running voluntary-led independent living exhibition.
