Council buys extra grit bins

CULCHETH and Glazebury Parish Council is to buy two grit bins, at a cost of more than £500, in addition to five they are already being given by the borough council.
They will be placed at various locations around the village where, in recent years, motorists and pedestrians have experienced problems due to snow or ice.
The seven bins will be placed at Lowfield Gardens and Meadow Bank Close, Glazebury and Fowley Common Lane, Eden Avenue, Chatburn Court, Crofton Gardens and Medway Road, Culcheth.
They will be “topped up” by the borough council up to four times.
Grit will be spread by the borough council but will also be available to residents to help make roads and pavements safe during wintry weather.
Cllr Keith Bland said: “All the sites have caused problems during the winter over the years, particularly the last two winters.
“Crofton Gardens and Medway Road have been particularly bad, with motorists sometimes unable to get out of them.”
Originally, Culcheth and Glazebury, in common with most other parish councils across the borough, declined the borough council’s offer of five bins.
But after the borough put forward a revised offer, the majority of parishes changed their minds.

  1. Good to see everyone singing from the same hymn or should it be carol sheet (as they were by the clock last week outside the Co-operative store in Culcheth. I can now set off for Glazebury from Fairfiled and Howley on a Thursday – safer in the knowledge that I might be able to pick up my batch of blind members on gritted roads. After all they are now V.I.Ps (Visually Impaired People) and they have a wicked sense of humour. lol

  2. We have a new grit bin near our house on the bad sloped corner and one further up where the cars kept crashing last year. Hurrah 🙂 Thank you Walton PC 🙂 I wonder who has the keys and will spread it though as they are locked. Obviously they have to be locked becasue some muppet would probably pinch the grit (:

  3. My other half says he noticed that some idiot has already broken the lock and opened the new grit bin in Stockton Heath near the medical centre/car park. WHY do they do this ? Do they not realise it has been put there for a reason because it is a dangerous spot when it is icy especially for those who are ill, elderly or have young children etc and who are trying to get to the doctors surgery . The council and parish councillors are at least now trying to HELP the situation and yet some idiot just ruins their efforts. I hope this is the only one and a one off as otherwise it will probably result in the bins being removed or not being offered in future !?!?!?

  4. Blimey! They really are dragging this story out! First, the Parish Council said “No”, then they changed their mind and said “Yes” and now they are spending their own money on getting some more! Totally bonkers!
