POLICE at Warrington are appealing for witnesses after a serious sex attack on a young woman in the town centre.
The incident was reported in the early hours of Sunday morning, December 11.
A 23-year-old woman was in the town centre on a night out with friends.
At around 3am, when she had become temporarily detached from her friends, she was subjected to a serious sexual attack in the area of Bridge Street and Bank Street.
Detective Inspector Debbie Dodd, who is overseeing the investigation, said: “The victim is traumatised following her ordeal and is being supported to assist with her recovery.
“We would urge anyone who has any information which might assist with our enquiries, to come forward.
“We are keen to speak to anyone in the area at the time, particularly anyone in the vicinity of Bridge Street who may have witnessed this incident.”
Two men were involved in the incident, one aged 23-24, around 5ft 5 inches tall with a shaven head and wearing a light grey jumper and dark blue jeans and the other a man of mixed race, also aged 23-24 and with a shaven head. He was wearing a salmon pink coloured top and dark jeans.
DI Dodd added: “We take all incidents of this nature extremely seriously. I would like to take this opportunity to urge people, particularly lone females, to follow basic safety advice by remaining vigilant when walking alone at night, maintain an awareness of your surroundings and personal safety and always make sure that someone knows where you are going and when you are due back. Avoid poorly lit areas and report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers hotline 0800 555 111.
