Emergency repairs close road bridge

A ROAD bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal at Warrington is to be closed for about two hours this afternoon while emergency repairs are carried out.
The work is necessary following structural damage caused by a heavy lorry this morning.
Canal company engineers will carry out the emergency repairs between 1.30-3.30pm on the Warburton toll bridge at Rixton.
Diversions will be in place, but drivers are being strongly advised to find alternative routes.
A spokeswoman for Warrington Borough Council said the authority’s highways department was informed about the situation late this morning.
The council has also been informed that emergency works being carried out by Scottish Power on Froghall Lane/Bewsey Lane/Midland Road, Warrington, which have led to a section of Froghall Lane being closed, are due to be completed Sunday afternoon.
