Students defy education history

SHOWS performed by colleges have an average life span of two performances – but students from Warrington Collegiate are defying educational history by performing a hit Broadway show for two weeks.
“Seussical- The Musical” will run from January 9-22 2012 in Warrington. But that’s not all – on Sunday, January 29 the students will be performing extracts from the show at Her Majesty’s Theatre, London as part of a show put on by students from across Europe.
James Baker, the Collegiate’s course leader and director of the show, said: “As far as I can tell, a two week run of a musical is a UK first for an FE college.
“We train students in a vocational setting and offer them the opportunity to experience the reality of a working actor. The fact that we’re running ‘Seussical’ for an impressive 16 shows allows them to gain essential skills for this tough industry”
Warrington Collegiate’s Musical Theatre has to date won 12 national awards for the standard of their work and have been rated by Edexcel, the awarding body, as operating far above national standards.
“Seussical – The Musical” is being staged in-the-round as an interactive and immersive experience for its audience. Tickets are £8 and can be purchased by visiting www.eventelephant.com/seuss
