NEW borough councillor Sandra Bradshaw has pledged to carry on the work of the late Colin Oliver, the Liberal Democrat councillor who died tragically after winning a seat on Warrington Borough Council.
Mrs Bradshaw spoke after retaining the Poulton North seat on the borough council in the third contest for the seat this year.
Flanked by her husband Alan and by Colin Oliver’s widow, Chris, she said: “I would like to thank everyone who voted for me. Colin will be a very hard act to follow but you can trust me to always do my best for the people of Poulton North.
” I look forward to carrying on with Colin’s work for the community and I will be there to listen and help people when they need me.”
Lib Dem leader, Cllr Ian Marks added: “I am delighted to welcome Sandra onto our group.
“She was a great candidate and thoroughly deserved to win. Sandra has been a parish councillor for several years and understands the area well. She has a first-class record of working in the community and she will now be in a position to do even more for local people.”
In May, Cllr Oliver lost his seat to Labour. But when another Liberal Democrat councillor resigned for business reasons, he successfully fought a by election to return to the council.
Then, before even attending a borough council meeting, he died tragically leading to another by-election.
Cllr Bradshaw will serve only until next May when she will have to fight and win another election to stay on the borough council.
