Safe crossing for children

SCHOOL children, site workers and worshippers attending church will all be able to cross a busy main road thanks to an initiative by three councillors.
Councillors Tony McCarthy, Paul Bretherton and Bill Brinksman saw the need for a crossing on the A57 Manchester Road at Woolston.
A new pedestrian crossing has been installed following concerns over a lack of facilities in the area – and is already being well used.
In a joint statement, the three councillors said: “We are delighted to announce that this new crossing hasn’t cost the taxpayer a penny as, in conjunction with council officers, we negotiated 100 per cent funding with a large international business based in the area to turn this vision into a reality”.
The crossing will benefit workers from the Grange industrial and people visiting St Peter’s Church, as well as pupils at local schools.
