Mayor inspects new homes

THE Mayor of Warrington went on a tour of inspection of 10 brand new council homes – and took the opportunity to welcome the tenants to their new homes.
Cllr Mike Biggin dropped in on residents of the houses in Sealand Close, Blackbrook, built by main contractor Bullock Construction and funded by the borough council and the Homes and Community Agency.
He was accompanied by executive member for environment and public protection Cllr David Keane and housing officers.
New resident Florence Lloyd, 84, opened her door to the party from the council, Golden Gates Housing Trust and Bullock Construction.
She said: “I only moved in last week but my new house is lovely, it’s fabulous.”
Cllr Keane said: “I was very pleased to come and see these new homes for myself and was impressed to hear about their green credentials. I really think that this is the way we should be heading in the future.”
The homes are among the first in Warrington built to the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4. This means they meet new government targets for cutting carbon emissions and are 44 per cent more energy efficient than a typical home built in 2006.
The scheme in Blackbrook is the final phase of the construction programme to be completed and consists of 10 two bed bungalows. The majority of the new homes have been let to local elderly residents who have released a bigger house for re-letting to families on the housing register.
Golden Gates Housing will manage the new homes on behalf of the council.

  1. What a fantastic development this has turned out to be – lovely layout, solar panels, great insulation, water buts that retain water for flushing toilets, etc and even bird and bat boxes. They all have a very high quality finish and are nice and warm inside.

The whole scheme from planning application has gone really smoothly and everyone we met on the day had a great big smile.

From what I can see and the new residents to my ward are going to be very happy. The Mayor even parked his car where somebody has yet to move in – in fact I think that Mike has his eye on it and was staking his claim.
