Fake wine seized in raid

MORE than 200 bottles of counterfeit wine were seized in a raid on a shop at Warrington.
HM Revenue and Customers officers and Trading Standards officers were involved in the raid which resulted in 218 bottles of counterfeit Blossom Hill wine being seized.
Several varieties of the popular brand were confiscated after labelling concerns alerted officers to a problem with the shop’s stock.
The wine was not toxic but had an unpleasant taste – but this is not always the case with fake alcohol.
Cllr David Keane, Warrington Borough Council’s executive member for environment and public protection warned: “The labels on counterfeit products are often the first clue something is not right. Many have not been applied in a uniform manner and may even feature spelling mistakes. We are getting more and more intelligence on this growing problem but the real issue is you don’t know what’s in the bottle.”
Trading Standards believe there are a number of fake wine and vodka products currently in circulation in the area.
Anyone with concerns or information should contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06.

  1. We’re not going to tell you where the shop is…..but have you got any concerns??? How stupid is that!?………………just tell us where the shop is and we can tell you if we bought wine there and we can go and get our money back 🙂

  2. Are the current cutbacks are being extended to cove the news now? When did it happen, where did it happen, was it a shop and was the owner prosecuted? “The real issue is you don’t know what’s in the bottle.” No, the real issue is your not showing us what we should be looking out for. Why not show us this instead of a councillor?
