Chance to shape future of health care

WARRINGTON residents are being given the chance to help shape the future of health care in the town.
NHS Warrington is inviting local people to attend this year’s Annual General Meeting which takes place at the Gateway at 12 noon on Monday, September 26.
The meeting will mark the formal publication of the Trusts Annual Report, which also includes the annual accounts and the beginning of a new era in healthcare commissioning.
Warrington Health Consortium, now responsible for planning NHS care for the town, will join the Primary Care Trust for a review of what has been a busy year for the NHS and a look forward to the future of healthcare in Warrington.
Dr Sarah Baker, Accountable Officer Designate for the Consortium will discuss the significant progress Warrington has made in establishing its clinical commissioning consortium, which now has a £250m health budget for Warrington patients.
NHS Warrington believes the town is in an excellent position to lead the way in healthcare reform, as the Consortium has been awarded ‘Pathfinder’ status by the Department of Health, which means that it is ready to take on commissioning responsibilities and ensure health services are in place that will achieve better health outcomes for patients.
Only last week the Health Service Journal announced that Warrington Health Consortium is one of just six organisations in the country to be shortlisted for a prestigious “Commissioning Organisation of the Year” award. The award is an acknowledgement of best practice and excellence in commissioning.
The Consortium as part of the Mid Mersey Medicines Management Board (5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, NHS Knowsley, NHS Halton and St Helens, St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust and Warrington and Halton Hospital NHS Foundation Trust) has also been nominated for a Health Service Journal ‘Quality and Productivity’ award. The award recognises work to improve effectiveness and enhance the patient experience as well as providing value for money.
Winners will be announced in November.
During the AGM members of the public will be able to ask questions about health matters that are important to them. There will also be an opportunity to find out more about how local residents can become a member of the Consortium through its membership scheme.
