WARRINGTON Council is joining forces with other authorities in Cheshire to support the film industry in a bid to bring business to the county.
Last year it is estimated that filming in the county brought £2,860,000 of value including fees, use of businesses and extra tourism.
Cheshire councils are the first in the North West to sign up to The Production Liaison Charter.
Warrington, Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester and Halton are signing the charter at a Celebrating Cheshire event at Chester Racecourse today, Friday.
Vision+ Media, (based at MediaCityUK in Salford) is the screen agency for the North West which facilitates filming will be hosting the event.
Kaye Elliott, its director of inward investment, said: “Dramas and comedies – from Peter Kay’s Britain’s Got the Pop Factor, to Waterloo Road, Coronation Street, and Hollyoaks – as well as epic commercials and landmark documentaries, have all chosen Cheshire as a filming location. The county regularly sees some of our best loved stars filming here.”
Cllr Terry O’Neill, leader of Warrington Borough Council, will sign for Warrington.
The councils undertake to be positive about filming, to nominate dedicated employees as a first point of call to accelerate filming requests and to attend partners meetings.
Chris Brown, chief executive, Marketing Cheshire, said: ““Filming is beneficial to Cheshire in so many ways; production companies spend money when they film here and often employ local crew and businesses; it lifts the county’s profile; and we know that ‘film tourism’ – where film-goers and TV viewers seek out the locations that have entertained them – is an important source of local tourism revenue.”
Kaye said: “From the splendour of Cheshire’s stately homes and villages to its vibrant cities and towns of Chester, Warrington, and Ellesmere Port – Cheshire is a county with a rich source of filming locations.
“Last year, (2010 – 2011) Cheshire supported 130 filming days at an estimated value to the county of £2,860,000.”
