Council seeks views on street traders

WARRINGTON Borough Council is seeking people’s views on street trading in the town as part of proposals to introduce a borough wide scheme.
Only traders within the town centre and those trading near the Halliwell Jones Stadium currently require consent to trade.
The plans would see businesses such as food vans and ice cream vans applying for consent to trade in other areas of the town.
Cllr David Keane, (pictured right) Executive Member for Environment and Public Protection said:”We want to work with all traders whether operating from a shop or a mobile unit to provide a quality trading environment. We believe that a borough wide scheme will help to achieve this. It will mean pitches will be assessed for safety and to make sure that they are in suitable locations. It will also allow us to protect legitimate businesses and consumers from any unscrupulous traders who don’t hold the necessary approvals.’
