Warrington lose top spot

WARRINGTON lost their top spot in division two of the Chapel Press Cheshire County League – but with two games remaining still have a good chance of promotion.
Michael Rudd top-scored with 37 as Warrington managed only a modest 127 at Brooklands, who then coasted to 128-4 despite tidy bowling from Drew Martell, 2-23.
Warrington 3rd got the better of Timperley, however, dismissing them for 180 after declaring on 201-7. And Warrington 4th enjoyed a four wicket win over Timperley who batted first and declared on 237-6. Mansoor Naseem took 4-43. Warrington replied with 238-6 Derek Bate hitting 91 and Philip Higham 36 not out.
In the Meller Braggins Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park triumphed in a low-scoring game with Kingsley. After Lymm had been dismissed for 85, the Kingsley batsmen capitulated for just 37.
Glazebury seed to have dropped out of the Cheshire Alliance promotion chase after a below-strength side were out-played by Stalybridge St Pauls.
Jack Warhurst took 4-70 as Stalybridge reached 170-7. Glazebury could only muster 126, the experienced Simon Green top-scoring with 29 not out and Warhurst contributing 22.
Glazebury 2nd went down At Knutsford where they were dismissed for 160, Andy Durrington 45, Phil McCue 45.
Appleton came close at Wistaston, but still lost. The home side hit 196-9, Chris Grumley taking 3-23. But after Richard Clarke 54 and Tom Lomas, 85 not out, had given them a good start, Appleton subsided to 184.
Anthony Hurst hit 93 and Lee Stoll 59 not out as Appleton 2nd reached 208-3. Then they bowled out Langley for 74, Philip Jackson taking 3-19, Samuel Swift 2-19 and Gareth Bailey 2-6.
Rylands, all out for 172, got the better of Wirrall who were dismissed for 147. Rylands 2nd went down against Wirrall however, only managing 125, despite a useful 47 from Les Jones. Wirrall replied with 126-3.
