Police get ready for music festival

AS 50,000 people arrive in the Warrington area for the Creamfields music festival this weekend, police have unveiled comprehensive traffic plans.
Officers have been working for months on plans to keep traffic on the move as people from all over the UK visit the Daresbury site from tomorrow (Friday) to Monday.
Police are working with event organisers, the Highways Agency and councils to ensure everything runs smoothly, and a detailed traffic plan has been drawn up.
Sgt Rick Weaver, of the Cheshire Police Road Policing Unit, said: “The traffic plan has been designed to ensure that those attending the event can access and leave the site efficiently – by the most appropriate routes.
“It also aims to manage the likelihood of increased traffic in the area – for the benefit of local residents who will need to maintain access to their homes and local businesses.”
He said the number of visitors will test the traffic infrastructure to its limits but that police were confident the plan will address any problems as it deals with congestion hot spots and the possibility of any major incidents.
The event opens on Friday morning and runs until about 2pm on Monday. Most people are expected to arrive on Friday or Saturday morning and leave on Monday morning. Police say these are the times when residents can expect some congestion on local roads.
Drivers are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys and to be alert as the roads will be busier than normal. Motorists are also being advised to tune into local radio stations for updates if local roads are congested.
Festival goers are being advised to allow plenty of time for their journey and to use junctions 11 and 12 of the M56 and junction 7 of the M62 and to follow the designated routes as road closures will be in place.
Drivers should also not rely on their satnavs – as traffic signs will point them in the right direction as they get nearer to the site.
The north car park is for day ticket holders only and anyone who is being dropped off or picked up for camping. People parking and camping for the whole weekend should head for the south car park.
Local roads will have full and partial closures, but residents will still be able to gain access to their homes at all times.
Festival goers are being encouraged to make use of public transport or the shuttle bus services that are running to the event from Liverpool, Manchester and Warrington.
Further details of these shuttle bus services are available on the official Creamfields at www.creamfields.com
Further information about policing of the event is at www.cheshire.police.uk
Closures affect Daresbury Lane, Holly Hedge Lane, Hobb Lane, Old Chester Road, Park Lane, Pillmoss Lane, Warrington Road, Underbridge Lane and Hatton Lane.
