A LOCAL historian from Yorkshire is trying to trace relatives of a World War One soldier believed to have come from Warrington.
Dave Weaver has scant information about the old soldier but would welcome any help from local people.
A soldier named William Henry Bibby lay severely wounded at the Battle of the Somme.
He subsequently deid and his possessions were handed to Mr Weaver’s grandfather, to be passed on to Mr Bibby’s family.
But the Bibby family were never found and a member of Mr Weaver’s family still has William Henry Bibby’s Bible.
Mr Weaver said: “He would like to be able to give it back to his descendants, if he has any.
“According to his enlistment papers he was born in 1894 in the September quarter – that is, July, August or September.
“The only date in the General Records Office which fits matches a birth in Warrington.”
If anyone can help Mr Weaver they can email him at [email protected]
