Fire crews battle through the night

FIRE crews fought all day and through the night to extinguish a major barn fare at Croft, near Warrington.
The blaze, in Kenyon Lane, was reported at 7.39am on Sunday and six fire appliances were called to the scene.
Three hundred tonnes of straw was alight.
The battle to control the fire went on throughout yesterday and one crew remained at the scene all night in case of further outbreaks.
Fire crews were also called to deal with a road accident at the junction of Lovely Lane and Bewsey Road, Warrington where people were trapped. They used cutting gear to release them before they were taken to hospital.
There was also a house fire on Kingsway North, Warrington where a hosereel and ventilation unit were used. Smoke alarms on the premises failed to operate.
On a less serious note, fire crews were called out to release a dog which had got its head stuck in railings in Athlone Road, Warrington. The frightened animal was released unharmed.
