Police hunt for hi-jackers

POLICE in Warrington are appealing for witnesses following an early morning hi-jacking incident involving an articulated lorry on Winwick Lane.
The incident happened at around 3am on August 12 when a lorry driver, who was travelling on the A579 Winwick Lane, was forced to stop by a man wearing a balaclava who was stood in the road.
Another man, who was also wearing a balaclava, then entered the cabin of the lorry and threatened the driver.
The driver, who had been travelling from Yorkshire to Warrington, was then directed to Sandy Brow Lane where he has been tied with cable and placed in the rear of a van.
The victim – a 32-year-old man from Wigan – was later dumped near St Helens. He did not suffer any injuries as a result of the incident.
The lorry was later found abandoned on Sandy Brow Lane with half of its load missing.
The offenders are described as white and were both wearing motorbike balaclavas. One of the men spoke with a south Yorkshire accent and the second man spoke with a St Helens or Warrington accent.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information, which might assist officers with their enquiries, is urged to call Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000 quoting incident number 142 of 12 August.
