A LOCAL hero is being sought to officially open a half marathon being held in Warrington on September 18.
The Spire Healthcare English Half Marathon starts at 9am from Victoria Park, Warrington.
Organisers are looking for someone who may have made a significant contribution to the local community through fundraising or voluntary work, are a great neighbour or have overcome difficult circumstances. People are being asked to nominate “local heroes” to be considered before Friday September 2.
The winner will officially open the race, receive a goody bag and be a VIP at the post race party at the Park Royal Hotel, Stretton.
Race director Mike James said: “We are really excited about this year’s race. The residents of Warrington always turn out in their hundreds for the event whether they are running or cheering others on and this year promises to be better than ever.
“The run is known as ‘the people’s challenge’ because it’s something everyone can get involved in and runners of all abilities can take part. We would like to honour a local hero this year by appointing them the position of official starter of the race so get your nominations in – we’d love to hear from you.”
Cllr Terry O’Neill, leader of Warrington Borough Council, said: ‘We know there are lots of unsung heroes in Warrington, whether they are someone who always goes the extra mile for their neighbours or runs a local community or voluntary group. If you have a local hero then why not nominate them today and give them the recognition they deserve.”
To make a nomination email the name of the nominee and details of why they are being nominated to Clare Wheelhouse at [email protected]
