Drunken clown in police campaign

A PICTURE of a “drunken clown” in full face paint walking on a railway track is one of highlights of a new police campaign.
Officers are using a “top looks to avoid list” to highlight the dangers of binge drinking.
The campaign against drink-related crime and disorder is running on the police website focusing on 10 “looks to avoid” after a night out, barbecue or summer leisure event.
Other pictures include the angry gorilla and the cone head.
Assistant Chief Constable Janette McCormick said the message behind the Good, Bad and Ugly campaign (on alcohol awareness) is that binge drinking makes people vulnerable.
She said: “We felt the pictures sum up the different aspects of that message. For instance, the clown on the railway track highlights the fact that drinking too much impairs your judgement. It makes you take risks you would definitely avoid if you were sober.”
The pictures, she said, treat the issue with humour in a bid to get people’s attention.
“The reality is not humorous. You are much more likely to be involved in a fight if you have been drinking. And some people really do walk on railway lines when they are drunk. The result is often fatal,” said ACC McCormick.
A series of pictures, soon to be on the force website, recreate typical situations from when people have not been sensible about their drinking. They have been posed using models but reflect the sort of images which appear on CCTV cameras on many evenings, particularly at weekends.
ACC McCormick said: “We hope people will look at both sets of pictures and get the message, loud and clear.”
