A WARRINGTON school is celebrating after the successful premiere of its latest film.
Pupils, parents and staff from Penketh High School packed into the Odeon Cinema in the Trafford Centre, Manchester, to see “The Dark Side Of Magic” (TDSOM) hit the silver screen for the first time.
The film’s director, Jonathon Kay, said: “This was a really ambitious project so it was really rewarding to see it through until the end.
“The feedback we got from the audience was very positive. They said they could tell we’d put a lot of work into the production and they couldn’t fault the technical effects.
“Following on from our 2009 film ‘Louie’, it’s the first sequel we’ve ever made so we had to pay attention to aspects we’d never come across before such as writing a follow-up story and introducing new characters while retaining the spirit of the first film.”
The film is an off-the-wall comedy that follows young French wizard Louie Chouet as he and a group of his English friends attempt to stop an ancient magical book which grants its owner the power to rule the world falling into the hands of an evil magician.
TDSOM starred nearly 300 pupils and members of staff from Penketh High School and was made on a budget on £1,000 – not even one per cent of the £150 million spent filming the two Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows movies.
The school intends to release the film on DVD before November and it will be available from the school.
The school’s other three films are already available to buy on DVD.
