SUNNY weather and an increase in the number of bands helped make Stockton Heath Walking Day a success according to parish council chairman Cllr Celia Jordan.
She told members the churches and others involved in the organisation worked very hard to make the day a success.
But Cllr Graham Roughsedge was concerned about the lack of traffic cones to prevent parking in several areas – including Alexandra Road – which he said caused problems.
Cllr Tudor Pole said he had been asked by a “prominent member of the community” why the military were not represented in the procession
“He thought the military should be represented. I said it is up to the churches,” he said.
Cllr Pole and several other members said they felt it was inappropriate for the military to be involved.
Sun was a boost for Walk

I agree with Cllr Roughsedge re the parking. Parkgate Road was lined with parked cars which was a shame as this is the road on which the walkers and the bands exit the park to start the procession. I guess that’s why the ‘stick’ wasn’t thrown high in the air for the pleassure of the waiting crowd. Maybe there were more cars than usual as it coincided with the Stockton Heath Festival which was open at 10am on the same day. As for the bands… I believe the churches etc organise and pay for their own bands and tend to use the same ones each year so like said it’s upto them really. I would like to see the military represented too though … why is it particularly ‘inappropriate’ though as I see no harm in a military band taking part at all 🙂
