Town to showcase artistic talent

ARTISTS and performers will take to the streets during Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival.
The free festival, from September 24 to October 29, will celebrate emerging and acclaimed artists and performers as they take to the town’s streets, parks and Cultural Quarter venues.
It will include exhibitions, performances and live art, including a public art trail, arts and crafts fair, film festival and gallery readings.
Festival organiser Derek Dick said: “There is growing support and interest in contemporary arts in and around Warrington from the performing and visual arts sector.
“We are proud of the wealth of talent here and hope the festival will attract visitors from across the region, and engage those who may not normally visit their local art gallery or museum by bringing performances to streets and parks.”
Cllr Kate Hannon, the borough council’s executive member for leisure, community and culture, added: “This is a wonderful way to engage the local community in arts activities, and to allow local and regional talent to showcase their skills.
“I hope it will encourage residents to take a more active interest in the cultural facilities available to them all year round.”
Liverpool-based Urban Strawberry Lunch will give the festival a musical launch.
