Students re-brand African charity

ADVERTISING students from Warrington used their skills to re-brand an African charity which was set up by two friends after their travels.
The students, from the Warrington campus of the University of Chester, were given a brief to re-brand the charity 3rd World Hope.
It was set up by two of their friends from Chester, Shaun Williams and Howie Edwards who were struck by the welcome they received despite people living in poverty. When they returned to the UK they started fundraising for an orphanage in Malawi.
They raised money to equip the orphanage and provide sustainable resources. The aim is to build on the initial success by continuing to provide vital support in poverty stricken areas around the world.
Shaun approached the university for help in providing a promotional video for the charity. The students created videos using footage Shaun had collected in Malawi and also held a fundraising event which raised £500.
Kate Sillitoe, senior lecturer in Visual Communication and Digital Design, set this year’s students a task to re-brand 3rd World Hope – and following research they have given it a fresh, new look.
She said: “In the short time that the charity has been in operation it has built an orphan centre, developed land to feed the 72 children, built a chicken farm so that the children can make an income from selling the eggs to the local hospital, and it has created a place that these children can call home.
“The advertising students and I are thrilled that we are able to help 3rd World Hope make a difference to so many lives.”
Charity founder Shaun said: “Working with the university has proved invaluable in the development of 3rd World Hope. The passion and dedication of both the staff and students has made working with them both fun and very productive.
“3rd World Hope is extremely proud that we are able to spend every penny we currently raise to help those who need it most.”
