ANGRY residents are fighting plans for two blocks of apartments of up to three storeys in height on a former pub car park at Warrington.
They claim their homes and gardens will be overlooked by the new properties and that the development – which will consist of 12 apartments – will create traffic and parking problems.
Proposed balconies on the upper floors will also rob existing residents of privacy.
The proposals have been put forward by Square One Lifestyle Homes on land at the rear of the former Highwayman pub, in Manchester Road – now a convenience store.
More than 30 people have signed a protest petition and there have been five individual letters of objection – mainly from householders in Bennett Avenue.
The applicants says its aim is to provide innovative, affordable homes for first time buyers and key workers.
A parking space will be provided for each home and there will also be cycle and bin storage compounds.
The matter comes before the borough council’s development management committee tomorrow (Thursday) with an officers’ recommendation for approval.
But local councillor Kevin Bennett is urging members to visit the site before reaching a decision.

…..and we need more flats in town because?????
If the local residents had supported the pub when it was in business then they wouldn’t be facing this now – but I bet they all moaned about having that on their doorsteps too!
