Sarah's dream England call-up

A LOCAL woman has a message to all young people: “Never give up on your dreams.”
Sarah Impey, of Lymm, has been playing hockey for 34 years and has finally achieved her ambition of representing her country at the sport.
She has played twice, against Wales and Scotland in a home countries tournament and is hoping to be selected again to play in Germany at the end of August.
Sarah – whose 12-year-old daughter Jess recently took up hockey at Lymm High School and also plays for Lymm Hockey Club – was selected for the England Over 45s team. Normally, she plays for Timperley 2nd team in the Cheshire Women’s League and in her younger days played for Warrington 1st team.
Sarah is a forward and although she did not score in either of her internationals, she did have a shot saved on the line by the opposing goalkeeper.
“We beat Wales 4-0 but lost 2-1 to Scotland,” she said. “But for me it was playing for England that was the big thing.
“I had been trying to get into one of the England Veterans teams for three years. That’s why I want to send a message to all youngsters that they should never give up on their dreams.”
