SOLDIERS from 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment will play Crosfields ARLFC in a charity match at Warrington tomorrow (Saturday)
The teams will compete for the Tom Sephton Memorial Trophy at the Crosfields ground in Hood Lane North, Great Sankey, at 3pm.
All proceeds from the match will go to the Mercian Regiment Benevolent Charity.
Private Thomas Sephton, 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment, died in July last year of wounds sustained during service in Afghanistan. He was wounded in an explosion while on patrol in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.
The battalion has strong ties with Warrington. In May, its soldiers were guests of honour at an Engage Super League game between Warrington Wolves and Castleford Tigers.
Warrington Wolves designated the match as the club’s Armed Forces Game in support of Help for Heroes and the Mercian Regiment Benevolent Fund. The Wolves also debuted their limited edition kit inspired by the Army’s camouflage ‘MTP’ pattern.
Among those expected to take part in the match is Private Andrew Leeming, 19, from Warrington.
