Special welcome for horse heroes

A TEAM of wounded soldiers – using horses to pull a World War 1 Ambulance from Lands End to John O’Groats – received a special welcome when they arrived in Warrington.
The Mayor, Cllr Mike Biggin and Warrington South MP David Mowat braved the rain in the early hours of the morning to welcome the team during their 1,000-mile trek.
The servicemen, many of who have lost limbs on active service, are travelling 24 hours a day to raise £1 million for Help For Heroes.
The soldiers stopped briefly in Warrington to feed and water the horses and raise awareness of their mission. Their campaign backers include Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, Survival Expert and TV Star Bear Grylls and former Chiefs of the Defence Staff, General Lord Dannatt and General Lord Guthrie.
Mr Mowat said: “Despite the late arrival and the rain, it was a great moment to see the team arrive in Warrington. Horses Help Heroes is an original and innovative way, not only to raise money for our brave soldiers, but for the entire nation to show its gratitude to the young men and women who put their lives on the line for our country every single day. Many thanks to all those who came out to support and donate.
“We raised just over £300 on the night to give to the campaign and I would particularly like to thank the people, restaurants and shops of Stockton Heath for giving so generously to such a worthy cause.”
