Horses help Heroes

A TEAM of servicemen, severely wounded on active service, is due to pass through Warrington late tonight while on an epic Lands End to John ‘O’ Groats journey.
The Mayor, Cllr Mike Biggin and Warrington South MP David Mowat will be among those greeting the team at the Town Hall at about 11.45pm.
Horses Help Heroes is a unique challenge involving the team using a horse-drawn First World War replica ambulance to travel the 1,000 journey.
It will have a brief “pit stop” at the Town Hall while the servicemen and horses “refuel” before continuing their journey through the night.
The challenge is to raise more than £1 million to deliver direct, practical support to any wounded member of the Armed Forces who needs it.
Through Help for Heroes, all the funds raised will be distributed to organisations such as Combat Stress, the ABF and Blesma, who are best placed to provide the precise support that each wounded member of the Forces requires.
Inspiration for the challenge is Jacks El Tawil, an NHS paramedical who is an expert horsewoman and helped mentor members of the forces in front-line first aid.
She is remaining in the ambulance throughout the entire journey.
