Traders welcome news of new store

NEWS that Sainsbury’s will be taking over the Spar in Lymm village centre has been welcomed by members of the Traders Association.
A spokesman for the company told traders at their monthly meeting that all existing staff will be keeping their jobs.
Although full details of the takeover were still to be finalised, it is understood that the Spar will close at the the end of June or the first week of July – and will re-open as a Sainsbury’s Local sometime in August.
The store is being completely cleared prior to the takeover.
The spokesman stressed that the store will be a convenience store – not a supermarket.
Traders are hopeful that the Sainsbury’s brand will attract more shoppers into the village centre.

  1. The Traders Association might be happy but if I was a local trader ,I am not sure I would be. Sainsbury set up in Culcheth with a promise to not compete in certain areas eg selling newspapers, greeting cards etc. All promises not carried through.Although they only carry small ranges they sell everything now from pots & pans to barbeque equipment to small electrical items.

They were also to have restricted opening hours to protect the other small shops . They have recently applied and got more generous opening hours.
