Help wanted for local green spaces

LOVERS of the great outdoors are needed to promote the use of local green space in Warrington.
The Woodland Trust is asking people to join the Friends of Gorse Covert Mounds group, which aims to promote use of the wood and to conserve its wildlife.
The friends carry out maintenance, such as litter picking, during the year and organise events such as volunteers planting 500 native wildflowers, including primrose and red campion as part of its community involvement programme.
They will also have a stall at Risley Moss Green Safari Day on June 26 where they hope to attract more members.
Trust spokeswoman Gill Dobson said: “One of the methods charities can use to protect, support, and promote their cause is by encouraging local people to form friends groups.
“This grass roots approach not only seeks to engage local people with their communities, it also enables the charity to focus in on a specific area in a more direct and meaningful way, and draw on and enhance the knowledge and skills of local people.”
Gorse Covert Mounds at Birchwood is a 20-hectare site designated a Site of Importance for nature conservation.
Risley Moss Green Safari Day runs from 11am to 4pm and includes falconry displays, ferret racing, moss land walks, pond dipping and arts and crafts.
