Fewer children go to hospital

A NEW report has revealed that children in Warrington with long term health conditions – asthma, diabetes and epilepsy – are much less likely to be admitted to hospital than those living elsewhere in England.
Research into the number of emergency child admissions by the North West Public Health Observatory has shown that Warrington is bucking both regional and national trends.
The North West has the highest child emergency admission rate for both asthma and epilepsy and the second highest admission rate for diabetes in England. However in Warrington, where specialist nurses are supporting children and families to manage their own conditions more effectively in the community the local NHS has seen some of the lowest number of emergency admissions in the region.
A spokesperson for Warrington Health Consortium said “We’re really pleased to hear that health services delivered in the community are making a real difference to patients with long term conditions and their families. Warrington Hospital’s specialist nurses are doing a fantastic job helping children and young people to lead normal lives by keeping them well and importantly out of hospital”.
