Carnival treat for dog owners

DOG owners got a special treat at Birchwood Carnival when they got the opportunity to have their pet micro-chipped for free.
The annual event at Birchwood Forest Park saw a borough council animal warden carrying out the chipping as well as checking that existing microchips were in full working order.
There was also the chance to win prizes of £75, £50 and £25 gift cards for entering a free wordsearch prize draw.
Lucky winners are Elle Harrison, Caitlyn Thirsk and Kimberley Cobb. They were presented with their prize by Cllr David Keane, the borough council’s executive member for environment and public protection.
Visitors to the carnival were also reminded of the importance of cleaning up after their dogs.
Cllr Keane said: “Responsible dog walkers and owners clear up after their dog fouls grass or pavements and the council encourages them to report any dog walkers who do not follow their example. It is a minority of irresponsible dog walkers who are causing the whole community to suffer the effects of dog fouling.”
