MP visits gas extraction project

1

WARRINGTON South MP David Mowat has been given a hands-on update on a project to extract gas from coal seams deep below the ground on the outskirts of the borough.
Mr Mowat met Andrew Austin, chief executive of Igas Ltd, who are expanding production at their coal bed methane plant at Doe Green, near Penketh.
Coal bed methane is one form of unconventional gas extraction and involves drilling horizontally into intact coal seams to extract the gas that has been created within the coal bed.
Unlike conventional gas extraction, the methane that is extracted has been trapped within the coal bed where it was created, rather than having seeped into a layer of more permeable rock.
Mr Mowat said: “I am delighted to have been updated on this exciting project taking place on the outskirts of Warrington. With North Sea gas reserves dwindling, we need to explore more ways of securing our gas supply to ensure we don’t end up dependent on Russian or Arab oligarchs.”

  1. This is a CRAZY idea made by get rich quick conservatives. Thatcher did the same with our N Sea oil and gas. We had enough oil and gas that would STILL be giving us our independence from ANY country for generations to come. Now there is a rush to grab all remaining reserves , natural gas (shale) and CBM.

Gas prices are going up, rigs are moving Onshore, environmental catastrophes are increasing, and the oil and gas companies continue to make huge profits. Even BP is back in profit. How is that possible?
